13 June 2023
The Garda Tourist Observatory in cooperation with the Catholic University of Brescia and the Garda Community has launched a New Research on Lake Garda Tourism, a research project to analyse the trends in tourist demand in the Garda area. The aim of the study is to create new sustainable opportunities for the area and to better understand the satisfaction levels of tourists with respect to the services and activities offered.
The Project
The quantitative research will take place between June and August and will involve local tourist consortia, accommodation facilities and information points. The results will be presented in a report by the end of 2023, which will contribute to improving the local tourism proposal and offer.
The Importance of Tourism on Lake Garda
Tourism represents a fundamental component for the economy of Lake Garda. Understanding the needs and preferences of tourists is crucial to develop effective strategies that can improve the tourism experience and promote sustainable development of the area.
The Role of the Catholic University
UniCat plays a key role in this project, providing expertise and resources for data analysis and interpretation of results. The university is a key partner in ensuring the quality and effectiveness of the research.
The garda community
Representing the local Garda communities, it is another fundamental partner of the project. It contributes with its knowledge of the area and its dynamics, and with its network of contacts with local tourism operators.
The Questionnaire
The questionnaire, available here, asks about the gender, age, nationality, place of stay and travel companions of individuals holidaying on Lake Garda. It also asks about their previous experience at the lake, type of accommodation, length of stay and the means of transport used to arrive and move around the area. Finally, he asks how they first came to know Lake Garda.
Interview with Valerio Corradi
We now give the floor to Valerio Corradi, who provides further details on the project:
"We have developed a questionnaire to better understand the tourism issue on Lake Garda. This questionnaire will be submitted through some consortia and facilities between 20 June and 20 August. The intention is to better understand who is, what they do, what are the preferences and levels of satisfaction of the tourists who visit Lake Garda. We have important data on a quantitative level, but today we know that the tourist who frequents Lake Garda is increasingly differentiated, not only in terms of nationality, but also in terms of tastes, of orientations. For example, there is a coexistence between classic mass beach tourism, gastronomic tourism, cultural tourism, and religious tourism. The intention is to understand how the tourism issue on Lake Garda is evolving and transforming.
We have technical requirements to close this first survey at the end of August and then proceed with processing. But the idea of having a permanent monitoring tool for the Garda-San tourism issue is certainly important. We are evaluating it because it could give us ideas for those months that are also considered the subject of all the discussion on the right season. For example, spring or autumn, which are frequented by particular types of tourists who live in Garda in a different way."
